GOLDENROD (#11) Herbal Honey
GOLDENROD (#11) Herbal Honey
Made with wildcrafted dried goldenrod (Solidago spp.) flowering tops, this herbal honey is helpful to have on hand for seasonal allergies, colds, and urinary tract infection. [FYI: Goldenrod is often mistakenly blamed for allergies since it blooms alongside its neighbor ragweed.]
Its herbal properties include: anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, astringent, and diuretic. Use caution with goldenrod if you’re taking prescribed diuretics.
Its bright yellow flowers make it a wonderful plant ally for pollinators. And it can be found growing wild throughout North America, Europe, western Asia, and north Africa.
Goldenrod can support us in several ways. Known for its ability to help us fight allergies, colds, and flus, it may also support us during urinary tract infections. Goldenrod is a versatile plant that can be infused in honeys (as in this botanical treat) and vinegars, and used in infusions and tinctures. Each batch of Finlay's Garden Herbal Honey is lovingly crafted and yields only a few tasty jars at a time. After filling up mason jars with the honey and dried herbs, I place them in my sunroom for 4-6 weeks. I turn over each jar every day or two so that the ingredients can dance together. This process allows the sun to gently warm the honey in order to extract the beneficial properties of the herbs and to marry the delicious flavors. Then I gently heat the honey in a double-boiler so that I can strain out the herbs. You may find very small particles of herbs left in the honey -- this is because I don't heat the honey too high nor do I strain it incredibly fine so as to not lose any benefits of the raw honey.
